We love these too!
- 2 sticks unsalted butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar sifted
- 1 egg
- 1 and 1/2 tsp almond extract
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 and 1/2 cups flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp red food coloring
Mix this together for sprinkling on top of the baked cookies
- 1/2 cup finely crushed candy canes
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
Cream butter and sugar, then add the egg and extracts. Stir in the flour and salt. Divide the dough in half and add the food coloring to one half. You can do this on low speed in the Kitchen-Aid - be careful not to splash !
Roll 1 tsp of pink dough and 1 tsp of light dough into 4 inch rolls. Twist together like a candy cane and curve the top. it is easiest to do this right on the ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Remove to a cooling rack and sprinkle with the candy-sugar mixture while still warm.
